ABOUT CHEROD JOHNSON 

Cherod Johnson is a Black queer literary critic, writer, and visual artist. They are currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in Environmental Humanities at Brown University. Their interdisciplinary work spans 19th- to 21st-century African American literature and visual culture, particularly photography and documentary film. Their research interests include Black queer ecologies, critical theories of the Anthropocene, and the everyday ruptures that shape Black diasporic thought and its aesthetic expressions. They received their Ph.D. in African Diaspora Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 2025.
